orma J. Green was elected Churchill County Assessor on November 7, 2000. No stranger to the assessment field, Norma was originally hired in 1986 by Assessor Paul Scholz and was promoted to Office Manager shortly thereafter. She served as Chief Deputy Assessor for William Bartlett and was appointed Assessor by the Churchill County Commissioners in June of 1999 to finish Mr. Bartlett’s term. She has been employed with the Assessor’s Office for 20 plus years and feels very fortunate to have learned every aspect of the office, from the entry level through the position of Assessor.
Norma speaks very highly of how the Churchill County Assessor’s Office has evolved over the years and believes this is due mostly to the excellent staff members and their individual talents. As the Assessor, Norma’s primary function is to locate and appraise all taxable real and personal property within the boundaries of Churchill County and provide assessed values for each. The Assessor does not make policy or set the tax rate |

Norma is a current member of the International Association of Assessing
Officers (IAAO) and an active member of the Nevada’s Assessors’ Association;
serving as its current President and past Vice President and Treasurer,
as well as serving on the Computer Consortium Committee and Agriculture
Committee. She also serves as the Chairperson for the Churchill County
Steering Committee, in which she is very active, to ensure that modern
technology works well within the County offices. Norma believes using
advanced technology within the Assessor’s Office is extremely important.
It keeps staff size at a minimum, produces a more professional service
product while keeping the cost per appraisal down, and makes information
readily accessible to the public. Norma is also a Certified Nevada Appraiser
for assessing purposes.
Norma proudly calls herself a product of Churchill County, having been
raised here and attending the Churchill County Schools from first grade
through graduation from Fallon’s Western Nevada Community College Cum
laude, with an Associate’s Degree in General Studies and Certificate
in Business. She calls herself a lifetime student because she enjoys
learning and going to school.
Norma and her husband, Lavelle, have been married for 28 years, and
currently reside in Hazen, NV where they raised two daughters. Norma
refers to her home as her 21 acre weekend
farm, where she happily spends a good portion of
her time, when not working at the Assessor’s Office. Norma also enjoys
pottery, reading, camping, hiking, gardening and most of all spending
time with her grandchildren. Although Norma has a very busy schedule
between work, school and her weekend farm, she tries to stay active in
the community. She is a member of Lahontan Republic Women’s Group, serves
as the Vice-President of the Board of Directors for the Churchill County
Credit Union. She and her husband are also members of the Churchill County
Arts Council and Churchill County Museum. |
