Procedures for
Military Personnel and Overseas Residents
We strongly recommend military personnel and their dependents who are
temporarily living outside of Nevada, and Churchill County residents
temporarily living overseas, to complete and submit a "Registration
and Absentee Ballot Request - Federal Post Card Application" (FPCA)
instead of the standard Voter Registration Application. The FPCA is a
Voter Registration Application and Absent ballot request in one. It
eliminates the need to submit these items separately.
The FPCA is available through a variety of sources. You may obtain it from voting officers at military bases, U.S. Embassies or Consulates. It is also available from the Churchill County Clerk/Treasurer's Office and the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP).
Go to the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website for detailed information, as well as instructions for printing and completing the FPCA. Send your properly completed FPCA directly to the Churchill County Clerk/Treasurer's Office. You may either fax or mail your application to our office.

Voter Registration Cards
Voter Registration Cards are non-forwardable mail, so if
the post office returns your card to our office as
"undeliverable" or indicating you have moved, your registration
may become inactive.
A new voter registrant is mailed a Voter Registration Card
within 2-3 weeks after their application has been processed. A new Voter Registration Card
will be sent if your polling place or precinct is
changed. If you have not received a Voter Registration Card, or if you've
lost your card and would like a replacement, call (775) 423-6028.
Your Voter Registration Card contains important
information such as your name, residential address, mailing address, party
affiliation and precinct number. Sign the back when you receive it in the
mail and remember to take it with you to the polls at election time.

Your Voter Registration Current
Changes to your registration information must be received
in our office no later than the fifth Saturday before a general or primary

Inactive
Voter Registration
If the post office returns your Voter Registration Card, sample ballot
or voter registration related correspondence to our office, as
"undeliverable" or indicating that you have moved, you will be
sent a forwardable notice advising you to update your address with the
Election Department. If you fail to do so within 30 days, your voter
registration will be inactivated. If you inform us that you have moved
outside of Churchill County, your registration will be cancelled.
If your registration is made inactive, we will stop mailing you
election related materials, such as sample
ballots. You may still vote in your precinct of record, but you will
be asked to complete and sign paperwork confirming your address. If you go
to any other precinct to vote on election day, you will be instructed to
return to the polling place where you can vote in your precinct of record.
To be registered as a current voter in Churchill County, please fill
out a new voter
registration application with your new physical and mailing address.

Absentee Voters
Absentee ballots accommodate voters who cannot or do not wish to vote in-person during early voting or on Election Day. Any registered voter, for any reason, may request an absentee ballot. The request must be in WRITING. You must provide a copy of appropriate I.D. when you request an absentee ballot if you are a first-time voter who did not provide identification (I.D.) when you registered.
You must submit a properly completed absentee ballot request to the Clerk/Treasurer's each election year you wish to vote by absentee ballot. Nevada does not provide for permanent absentee ballot status. After the request is processed, the voter will be mailed absentee ballot voting materials, which include a paper ballot and voting instructions.
After properly completing your written request, you can either mail, fax (775-423-7069) or hand deliver it to the Clerk/Treasurer's office.
