About the Detention Facility
The Churchill County Detention Center is an adult detention facility. The primary function of the detention center is to house pre-trial defendants, and generally non-felony sentenced inmates.

The detention center continues to pose population management, housing classification, and safety challenges for the staff. The facility was built in 1973 but it has gone through modifications and remodels to maximize the use of the existing space, allowing for 52 beds. It is important to keep in mind that this number does not accurately represent the number of inmates the facility can house on any given day. The linear design of the jail makes it difficult to properly classify inmates in a housing unit (cell). Any inmate that requires special security confinement, medical segregation, female housing, or other special housing needs rapidly diminish bed availability.

Detention Staff
Considering 2010’s daily average population of 39 inmates, deputies assigned to the detention center have their hands full providing for the security and well-being of inmates, staff, and the public. Currently there are eleven deputies and three sergeant assigned to the detention division. The Detention Division is also tasked with transportation of prisoners, security for Justice Court and District Court and assisting the Churchill County Court Services Department.  In addition to being responsible for day to day operations of the detention center, they also provide services to the public such as fingerprints for work permits and concealed weapons permit applications.
