Churchill County Search & Rescue is a nonprofit, incorporated organization, which has served Churchill County for more than 34 years. The 30 plus members of the unit are all volunteers from within the community, who donate their time and personal resources to provide a valuable service to people in need.

Search & Rescue currently resides at 1516 Rio Vista in a 60 by 120 foot building, which houses all of the unit’s vehicles and equipment. The building also has a meeting room where Search & Rescue conducts business meetings and in-service training. The building was formerly the Fabel building next to Stockman’s Casino. The building was taken down, moved, and reassembled with generous donations from the community, support of the County Commissioners and the hard work of the search and rescue membership.

Search & Rescue operates and maintains a boat, snow-cat, command bus, operations vehicle, equipment utility vehicle, and three jeeps. The unit has painted all of the vehicles so they are readily identifiable as search and rescue vehicles. All of the vehicles are well equipped to serve those in need of search and rescue’s services.

Search and Rescue members spend well over 1200 hours training in each year. Training included; First Aid, CPR, (AED) Automatic External Defibrillator, Map and Compass, 4 wheel off road safety, Rope Rescue, Man-Tracking, National Search and Rescue Conferences, and many other pertinent and specialized areas of training.

This year Search & Rescue again donated their services to support the Sheriff’s Department and our community by assisting with traffic control for graduation, fireworks security, and other operations as needed to serve the community.

Helping others in need is the primary mission of Search & Rescue. This responsibility is the motivation for Search & Rescue to be the most efficient and effective team possible.

In addition to increasing membership and training, Search & Rescue continued to maintain and purchase new equipment in order to provide a wide range of quality services to support the Churchill County Sheriff's Office, our community, and citizens in need of help.
