The Churchill County Sheriff's Office EMS Training Unit mission is to train and keep current the Churchill County Sheriff's Office Deputies, dispatchers, reserve deputies, and search and rescue members in first aid, CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation), AED (automated external defibrillator), and blood borne pathogens.

In 1992 when the EMS Training Unit first began it had one instructor and no equipment. Throughout the last several years the Medical Training Department has added three (3) additional instructors, 5 manikins, instructional books in every field that is taught, along with other essential equipment needed in keeping the Sheriff's Office current in all of it training. Also during this time the Medical Training Department was instrumental in making the Churchill County Sheriff's Office the first Northern Nevada law enforcement agency to be qualified in the use of AED's and to carry them in their patrol units. Through the use of the AED's there has been two (2) documented incidents where lives were saved.

Beginning in 2002 The EMS Training Unit began teaching a new program to the Sheriff's Office called FACT which stands for First aid, AED, CPR Training. This new program takes first aid, CPR, and AED and combines it into one (1) class. Using this consolidated curriculum will reduce over time cost to the Sheriff's Office and the number of classes and hours an individual will have to attend. By the spring of 2002 the entire Department was certified in FACTs.

The Medical Instructors also occasionally teach personnel outside of the Department such as the Churchill County High School Jr. R.O.T.C. and the Fallon Police Department. We also assist the Churchill Community Hospital with training upon their request.
