Special License Plates Available to Nevada Veterans

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offers several distinctive license plates for Nevada Veterans. Each specialized license plate can only be used in registering passenger vehicles or light trucks having a carrying capacity of one ton or less for personal use. 

Applications for special license plates can be picked up at the Fallon DMV office located at 973 W. Williams Avenue (between Ponte Realty and Best Western Inn), or you can download the application forms from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles Web Site.*

Ex-Prisoner of War
State law provides that a veteran of the Armed Forces who has been captured and held a prisoner of war may register ONE vehicle using Ex-Prisoner of War license plates. The DMV will require verification of Ex-Prisoner of War status by an original or certified copy of DD Form 214 (Certificate of Discharge), a copy of separation papers with Ex-Prisoner of War status noted, or a written notification from the Military Personnel Records Center. There is no additional fee charged for Ex-Prisoner of War license plates. All registration fees and taxes must be paid at the time of issue.

Disabled Veteran
State law provides that a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who has suffered a service connected disability rated 100% by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs may register ONE vehicle using Disabled Veteran license plates. To qualify, the veteran must present proof from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs of a 100% service connected disability. There is no additional fee for Disabled Veteran license plates. All registration fees must be paid at the time of issue.

Purple Heart
A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who was awarded the Purple Heart is entitled to one specially designed license plate which indicates that he is a recipient of the Purple Heart. To qualify the veteran must present evidence that he or she is the recipient of the Purple Heart (DD Form 214 - Separation Document or award certificate). There is no additional fee charged for Purple Heart license plates. All registration fees and taxes must be paid at the time of issue.

Veteran
A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, or their spouse, parent or child may apply for a Veteran license plate. The Veteran license plate will be inscribed with the word Veteran and four consecutive numbers, and the seal of the branch of the armed forces requested by the applicant. There is no limit to the number of vehicles that can display the Veteran license plate. There is an initial fee of $61.00 for a Veteran plate and an annual renewal fee of $30.00. These fees are in addition to all other applicable registration fees and taxes and are used to support the Nevada State Veterans Home.

Pearl Harbor Survivors and Veterans
State law provides that a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, may register ONE vehicle using Pearl Harbor Survivor or Pearl Harbor Veteran license plates. The DMV will require the veteran to provide verification that he was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. This verification can be a DD Form 214 or other certified discharge certification. There is an initial fee of $26.00 for a Pearl Harbor Survivor or Veteran plate and an annual renewal fee of $5.00. These are in addition to all other applicable fees and taxes, and must be paid at the time of issue.

Congressional Medal of Honor
Any veteran who is the recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor is eligible to apply for up to TWO Medal of Honor license plates. The DMV will require the veteran to provide verification of the Medal of Honor. There is no additional fee charged for a Congressional Medal of Honor license plate. All registration fees and taxes must be paid at the time of issue.
