Several county employees and volunteer firefighters were honored in June by the Board of County Commissioners upon their retirement or for their length of service to this community.
Retirements
Cliff Van Woert – Building Official; retired in May after 23 years in his position. As building official, Cliff headed the department responsible for issuing permits for and the inspection of residential and commercial construction projects in the unincorporated areas of the county.
Pam Powell – Cooperative Extension Educator. Pam retired after 17 years in this position. The Cooperative Extension, a division of the University of Nevada, Reno, offers educational programs in agriculture, community development, health and nutrition, horticulture and natural resources to residents of Churchill County.
Dave Vest – Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department. Retired with more than 24 years with the fire department.
Ralph Hammon - Fallon/Churchill Fire Department. Retired with 24.5 years with the department.
Bert Miller – Fallon/Churchill Fire Department. Accepted in his memory by his wife, LuDene. Bert served 35 years with the department.
Richard McKnight - Fallon/Churchill Fire Department. Richard retired after serving 20 years as a firefighter.
Ed Harris - Fallon/Churchill Fire Department. Ed served as the fire department administrator for nearly 29.5 years.
Service Awards
Willow Timbrel – Property Appraiser in the Assessor’s Office. 5-year service award. The Assessor’s Office locates and appraises all taxable (real and personal) property within Churchill County and provides assessed values for each.
Darryl Vierra – Custodian for Facilities, Parks & Recreation. 5-year service award. Parks & Recreation provides the finest in parks and recreation services to this community.
Charlene Nelson – Legal Offices Services Supervisor in the District Attorney’s Office. 10-year service award. The DA’s Office promotes justice and protects the people of Churchill County by prosecuting those who violate the law.
Julie Guerrero – Executive Assistant in the County Manager’s Office. 15-year service award. The County Manager’s Office brings alignment of effort and continuity to the affairs of Churchill County government.
Jennifer Jones – Records and Licensing Specialist in the Sheriff’s Office. 20-year service award. The Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement and public safety services to the residents and visitors of Churchill County.
Darrin Hammer – Senior Deputy Juvenile Probation Officer with the Juvenile Probation Office. 20-year service award. The Juvenile Probation Department protects the community by sanctioning illegal behavior and rehabilitating juvenile offenders.
