Churchill County Represented at Cantaloupe Festival

County Cantaloupe festival booth 2019

Churchill County will have three booths at this year’s Cantaloupe Festival with a variety of information and activities for festival attendees.

The general county information booth will be located near the pavilion/stage area on the main festival grounds. County personnel from various departments (Human Resources, Parks & Recreation, County Manager’s Office, to name a few) will be available at various times throughout the weekend to talk about county activities, construction projects and job openings. The county information booth will be open Friday, Aug. 27 from 2-6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The county’s health department will have a booth adjacent to the county’s information booth and will be offering free COVID-19 vaccines to anyone who wants one. All three vaccines will be available but there is a limited supply of the one-dose Janssen vaccine. This booth is open Friday from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Churchill County Museum will have a booth set up in the agriculture building and is focusing its exhibit on the Newlands Project and how its creation has impacted the agricultural industry here in Churchill County. By creating a canal from the Truckee River to the Carson River, the Newlands Project was able to bring water to the desert while Lahontan Reservoir is able to store extra water and distribute it through a canal system to farmers.  The museum will have a watershed hands-on activity to show children and adults alike the path one little droplet travels to get to our community. An assortment of cantaloupe merchandise including t-shirts, bags, stickers, and cantaloupe face masks will be available for sale.

Please stop by and say hello. Full Cantaloupe Festival & Country Fair schedule at: www.falloncantaloupefestival.com
