Churchill County now offers a third dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to those who self-report as being immunocompromised at any of its regularly-scheduled vaccine events (see below for remaining August schedule).
Those who want the third dose should match the dose type used with their primary vaccine series (if you got Pfizer earlier in the year, ask for Pfizer for the third dose) and wait 28 days after their second dose to be considered fully vaccinated.
The third dose is only available for those who received the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines at this time. Please bring your vaccination card with you if wanting a third dose. If you can’t find your card, you may download it from WebIZ.
People with medical conditions or people receiving treatments that would make them moderately to severely immunocompromised include:
- Active or recent treatment for solid tumor and hematologic malignancies
- Receipt of solid-organ or recent hematopoietic stem cell transplants
- Severe primary immunodeficiency
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids, alkylating agents, antimetabolites, tumor-necrosis factor (TNF) blockers, and other biologic agents that are immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory
- Chronic medical conditions such as asplenia and chronic renal disease may be associated with varying degrees of immune deficit
Additional Considerations:

- A patient’s clinical team is best able to assess the degree of altered immunocompetence and optimal timing of vaccination with attention paid to current or planned immunosuppressive therapies.
- Whenever possible, mRNA COVID-19 vaccine doses (including the primary series and an additional dose) should be given at least two weeks before initiation of immunosuppressive therapies.
- Factors to consider in assessing the general level of immune competence of patients with chronic disease include disease severity, duration, clinical stability, complications, comorbidities, and any potentially immune-suppressing treatment.
Churchill County vaccine schedule for remainder of August:
• Monday and Friday (Aug. 27, 30): Vaccine and testing by appointment only as available. Call (775)423-6695, option 2 to schedule.
• Tuesday (Aug. 31): Vaccines and testing at Miner's Road Public Health Site from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 25, 26): Vaccine only at Pennington Life Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; vaccine and testing at Miners Road Public Health Site from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• The county will have a booth at the Cantaloupe Festival located in the Pavilion offering vaccines on Friday, Aug. 27 from 3 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
