[ARCHIVED] Fallon Barrel Racing Donates To Charitable Agencies

Fallon Barrel Racing on Vets Day

Fallon Barrel Racing, an organization created by local women with a passion for barrel racing, held Veterans Day events at the Rafter 3C Arena that drew in competition from several states and generated proceeds for regional charities.

The “Race of Honor” drew 50 competitors for the race on Veterans Day with a total payout of 90 percent and was followed by 4D racing on November 12. In addition, event organizers held a silent auction, a tri-tip lunch and a food drive to raise funds for charity.

“This is the first event we’ve held tied to charity and we hope to continue doing this in the future,” said Emily Torvik with Fallon Barrel Racing. “We hold several events each year, and this was our one big event for the year.” She added that competitors came from across Nevada, California and Washington with a total of around 300 attendees over the weekend.

Torvik said that her previous relationship with Jesse Segura, fairgrounds operations deputy, made the Rafter 3C Arena an easy choice for the venue. “It is a really nice arena. Jesse and Nate and all our volunteers worked together to make this a successful event.”

Between the various races and classes, buckles went to Casey Ott, Hunter Morgan, Cindy Thomas, Emilee Drawver, Brynn Barto, Susie Reece, Jessi Aymani, Josey Clar, Jace Barto, Paydyn Torvik, Stevie Jessop, Charlie McQuirk, Kourtney Barto  and Christen Rhodes.

Event sponsors included Clark/Sullivan Construction, Stitser Drywall, Concrete Accessories, Pyramid Materials Inc., Cardin Realty, Action Electrical, Mt. Rose Heating & Air, Torvik Veterinary, Western Nevada Supply, Gerhardt Berry Construction and The Grid.

Center for Adaptive Riding received $1300 from the lunch and the Nevada Veterans Coalition received $3000 from the silent auction. A wheelbarrow dumpster filled with food donations went to Out of Egypt Food Pantry in Fallon.
