Churchill County Library: September Events and Happenings

Library story time - staff reads books to children

Fall into autumn at the Churchill County Library with a full calendar of fun events for the community, including some new offerings.

Special Events

Learn-to-fly-a-drone workshop happening on September 6 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Drop-in 3D printing workshop takes place September 13 and 27 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Using the library’s 3D printer, make objects, both useful and pretty, and learn more about this popular technology. 

Senator Rosen’s office representative at the library on September 14 for “office hours” at 1 p.m. Stop by and let the Senator’s staff know what your concerns are.

Reading with Rover takes place on September 14 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children read books to dogs to improve their reading skills and confidence to a decidedly captive audience. Added bonus: our furry friends are great listeners!

Family Science Night on September 15 at 5 p.m. Join library staff for hands-on experiments that are fun for the entire family. This remote program will be on the library’s big screen so everyone can conduct experiments and learn the science behind them. Supplies provided. 

Stop Motion Animation workshop happening on September 20 at 3:30 p.m. 

Need a career change? Let EmployNV help you with aspects of finding a new job on September 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. EmployNV staff will help you with aspects of finding a new job!

Teen Library Council meeting on September 26 at 2 p.m.

New book discussion for adults on September 28 at 6 p.m.! In honor of National Good Neighbor Day, bring your own book about good or bad neighbors to discuss. Light refreshments will be served. The library is featuring books about neighbors in September in case you need ideas.

Elementary Book Club is on Friday, September 29 at 3 p.m. Have the elementary kids stop by after school!

Ongoing Programs

“1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” encourages youngsters to read age-appropriate books before entering school. Book titles are suggested and offered by library staff. Recognition given for every 100 books read on the way to 1,000! Sign-ups accepted at any time at: bit.ly/CCL1000BBK. Geared to children ages 3-5, but all kids are welcome to participate.

Tuesdays

Knitting Club meets at 10 a.m. (except on September 12) and welcomes both novice and advanced knitters. They are willing to offer advice and tips and offer encouragement on your project.

Virtual Reality drop-in sessions take place from 3:15 to 5 p.m. All welcome to stop by!

Wednesdays

In-person children’s story time meets on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Each week’s story time will feature the same content. Children’s Librarian Miss J reads picture books to children and offers a craft to accompany most stories. 

Thursdays

Children’s story time is at 10 and 11 a.m. and Knitting Club meets again at 3 p.m. 

Fridays

STEAM sessions with VR are on Fridays from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Have a problem with your computer or smartphone? Head over the William N. Pennington Life Center on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. and get answers from Technical Services Librarian Joe Salsman, an expert in all things technology! 

Hours of operation

Library hours of operation are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays and major holidays.
